Specific procedures are in place for the following:
One teacher in each school will need to attend D&T Association approved training. Once the teacher has applied for the training he/she will be provided with a Student Edition of Pro|ENGINEER (which can be downloaded from www.ptcacademy.com and used on a single computer for one year). Teachers will need to sign up on www.ptcacademy.com in order to be sent the product code by e-mail before attempting to install the Student Edition. Instructions here
Introductory modelling tutorials are available on-line to support this. The face-to-face training may also make use of this version of the software. On completion of training and accreditation this teacher will be issued with the 300 seat Schools Edition of Pro|ENGINEER and a product key for network installation. The accredited teacher may then share the training experiences and use of the software with other teachers and/or technicians within, but not beyond, their school. There should always be an accredited teacher within each school, otherwise the school licence will become invalid.
If the accredited teacher moves to another school, leaving no other accredited teacher in the department, then another teacher will need to undergo training in order to become accredited. It is unlikely that this accreditation will require the full two day’s training if the teacher has already been using the software and accessing training resources on PTC Academy.
The full license, allocated upon completion of the accreditation requirements, allows for the installation of the software on up to 300 seats on the school network. In addition, the PTC license agreement also includes free student home use for up to 300 students; to aid schools in providing their students with Pro/ENGINEER, teachers are allowed to make up to 10 copies. The D&T Association recommends these 10 copies be used in a library system where students check out the CD, install the software on their home PC and check the CD back in afterwards. Once the student has left school, the software must be removed from the home. It is recommended teachers send the software home with the students accompanied by a letter detailing these requirements. PTC owns the copyright for Pro/ENGINEER and The D&T Association administers the scheme on the DCSF's behalf. This software has been made freely available to schools with the proviso that the terms and conditions of the license are adhered to by all teachers.
The CAD/CAM in Schools programme is a secondary scheme and is therefore only open to teachers in secondary schools (middle school use in Key Stage 3 is also permitted).
Teachers using Pro/ENGINEER other than as outlined above are acting outside the agreed scheme.
