Specific procedures are in place for the following:
ArtCAM 7: Update training for accredited teachers
In addition, UK teachers originally trained in the use of the previous version of ArtCAM (4.5) may update to ArtCAM 7 Educational. Download the procedure for updating but please be aware only accredited teachers are eligible to update in this manner. Teachers who attended a training course some time ago but did not complete the accreditation must attend a full training course in the use of ArtCAM 7 (as opposed to an update course).
There is no provision for 'cascade training' within a school, therefore any teacher wishing to use the software in school must attend a trainng course and be registered onto the scheme.
Every teacher at a school who wishes to use ArtCAM for teaching purposes is required to attend a full training course with an accredited trainer, and to complete the case study on this website in order to be licensed and accredited.
Every teacher at a school who uses ArtCAM for teaching purposes is required to have his/her own site licence for the software and a certificate of accreditation issued by DATA before they are able to use ArtCAM for teaching purposes or pass on copies to students. This accreditation moves with the teacher if they go to another school but the teacher is required to inform DATA of any such move in order to be licensed at the new location.
The full license, allocated upon completion of the accreditation requirements, allows for the installation of the software on up to 500 seats on the school network. In addition, licensed teachers are allowed to make up to 100 copies of the software for student home use (for educational use only). Once the student has left school, the software must be removed from the home. It is recommended teachers send the software home with the students accompanied by a letter detailing these requirements. DATA recommends using a library system with approximately ten CDs for students to check out and back in again; this keeps costs down and limits the chances of the software going missing.
Delcam owns the copyright for ArtCAM and DATA administer the scheme on the DfES' behalf. This software has been made freely available to schools with the proviso that the terms and conditions of the license are adhered to by all teachers.
The CAD/CAM in Schools programme is a secondary scheme and is therefore only open to teachers in secondary schools (middle school use in Key Stage 3 is also permitted).
Teachers using ArtCAM other than as outlined above are acting outside the agreed scheme.
